My Current project
USS Monterey was the last monitor built. The ship was designed for coastal defense
but spent most of her commission in foreign waters. Her coal ship, towed her to the Philippines to support Admiral Dewey's fleet. She was then dispatched to the China coast during the Boxer Rebellion. USS Monterey ended her usefulness as a sub tender and training vessel in Honolulu before being scraped in 1922. She was unique in that the ship could be flooded and sunk down into the water to, "fighting trim". As it can be seen in these pictures fighting trim makes her less of a target as most of the ship is under water. The model will also flood to fighting trim!
